At Sony, we’re always looking for ways to improve picture performance and deliver the best viewing experience. It’s why we’re recognised for high quality. LCD screen technology is just one of the ways a BRAVIA® TV can enhance picture contrast, improve TV design and create a more immersive way to watch TV.
OptiContrast Panels – a richer viewing experience
The TV ‘panel’ is the layer between the TV backlight, such as LED, and you, the viewer. How this is constructed has a significant impact on picture quality.
OptiContrast Panels have a special resin layer which absorbs any diffused light delivered from the backlight. What you see is high contrast and natural colours on screen – bringing out detail in the darkest movie scenes – and a real sense of depth.
This special resin layer inside OptiContrast Panels also absorbs ambient light in the room. When watching TV, it reduces glare from light sources such as lamps or sunlight. Turn off your TV and you have a beautiful surface to enhance the room – it’s part of our Monolithic Design concept.

Deep Black Panels – vibrant colour and contrast
Choose a BRAVIA TV with a Deep Black Panel and you’ll notice the difference in your whole viewing experience. The panel has a low-reflective, clear surface which helps deliver high contrast, realistic detail and accurate colours. Keep your eye on the action with no distractions and no ‘wash-out’ effect on the picture when light from lamps or the sun hits the screen.
LCD panels – high resolution Full HD detail
LCD panels used in BRAVIA HD TVs ensure you see high definition detail at its best. Each liquid crystal filled cell of the LCD screen can be individually adjusted so that each dot (or pixel) on the TV displays vibrant colours and fine detail. With over 2 million pixels optimised on a Full HD screen, you can enjoy every detail of your favourite sports, movies and games.
