Every day we take pictures with our cameras and camcorders that capture the beauty of nature – from snow-capped mountains to shimmering ocean scenes – and relive these moments on our TVs and Blu-ray Disc™ Players. It’s an amazing world and we want to keep it that way. Our latest products are packed with environmentally-friendly features (we’ve added eco mode to more of our products) and have been designed to use less energy (up to 55% less) and minimise the impact on the environment (slimmer designs, less packaging).

TVs that use up to 30% less energy

See your favourite movies on a clear, bright screen in Full HD, without worrying about power consumption. Some of our latest TVs come with Dynamic Edge LED screens with Local and Frame Dimming, which enables to reduce energy usage by up to 15-20%. What’s more, intelligent technology built-in to each TV knows what you’re watching and adjusts the picture and lighting settings automatically, saving around 30% of the energy used in normal viewing.

Ground-breaking plastic made from 99% recycled material

How can we use more recycled plastic? In searching for the answer, our Research and Development teams actually created a new type of recycled material – SoRPlas (Sony Recycled Plastic). It’s made from broken down DVDs and optical sheets from TVs and we’re using it in more and more of our products. 99% of SoRPlas is made from recycled materials, which is the highest rate of recycled content achieved by any manufacturer. The manufacturing processes for SoRPlas generate 80% less CO2 than the processes used for conventional virgin plastics.

Projector lamps that last longer

Sometimes the brightest light can last longest. The lamps in our latest projectors last up to 67% longer than previous models and an improved optical mechanism is 20% more power efficient than before. You can even select your own energy-saving settings from a built-in ECO mode menu, cutting power consumption by up to 50% depending on your viewings preferences.

Fewer moving parts make speakers more efficient Our latest speakers create a clearer, stronger sound with less power. Magnet Fluid speakers have fewer moving parts with a damper-less design. This means they deliver a sharper sound, while reducing power consumption by 35% compared to some of our previous speakers.

Slim design and energy efficient Blu-ray Disc™ Players

Cut the size, cut the impact on the environment. For 2012 we looked at our Blu-ray Disc™ Players and made them smaller and more efficient. New integrated circuitry has slashed energy consumption by around 55% compared to previous models, and because we cut the overall size too, the amount of CO2 associated with shipping has fallen by 40%.
