Sony's α Inherits DYNAX Legacy

In April 2006 Sony took over the DYNAX business from Konica Minolta and changed the brand name to α. Though the name has changed, the spirit that inspired DYNAX to make the SLR camera a creative tool for all users has not, for the goal of α too is to help photographers express their creativity to the best of their ability. With the entire α system supported by the well-respected DYNAX A mount, which accounts for more than 16 million lens sold worldwide and which has been renamed the α mount, the future looks bright indeed, as Sony's α works to take the technology to new levels.

Tradition and Challenge

The history of photography reaches back some 180 years, during which time the single-lens reflex camera appeared on the scene more than half a century ago. While respecting the SLR's legacy of performance and functions, Sony's α has taken up the challenge of creating a new type of digital SLR camera.

Invitation to a New Photo Lifestyle

With the advent of digitalization, the role of the SLR has expanded well beyond taking beautiful photographs. Today, the SLR is used in combination with equipment like the PC and TV, as well as for network and Internet-based applications.

So α is promoting a new lifestyle that makes use of such digital equipment and applications, and is upgrading the operability and performance of its photographic equipment accordingly.
