Pick the perfect lens for brilliant twilight images

Pick the perfect lens for brilliant twilight images

Great low-light shots start with a great lens for your DSLR camera that’s up to the job.

As daylight fades, be sure your lens can capture as much light as possible. You’ll get best results by switching to a fast, bright lens offering a wide maximum aperture.

The aperture of any photographic lens is measured by its F-number. A small F-number means a wider, brighter lens that gathers more light at its maximum aperture.

If you want the widest aperture possible, pick a lens with a fixed focal length like the extra-bright SAL-50F14 50mm / F1.4 fixed focus lens. You’ll enjoy superior clarity and exceptional resolution. Or pull on-pitch action closer with a telephoto zoom like the premium-quality SAL-70200G 70-200mm F2.8 zoom.

Making the most of the available light, a wide-aperture lens lets you shoot with a faster shutter speed. And that’s good news if you want to capture fast-moving action, especially if you’re shooting handheld.

What’s more, using a bright lens at wide apertures means you’re not so dependent on using your camera’s highest sensitivity (ISO) settings. And that’s good news, cutting picture noise to a minimum for fabulously natural, lifelike results with less grain and fuzziness.
