SXRD projector panels have fast response times

How does SXRD projector technology work?

Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRD) is an advanced home projector technology using special micro-display panels for added detail and clarity.

SXRD works by having three panels for red, blue and green carefully aligned inside the Home Cinema Projector. Separate coloured panels eliminate colour breakage and ensure optimum colour reproduction on screen. There’s no chance of the ‘rainbow effect’ caused by other devices.

SXRD panels use liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) technology to pack over 2 million pixels into a tiny surface area. The impact on the projected image is significant. Full HD images appear as smooth, film-like images with over 6.2 million pixels of detail.

SXRD panels also have fast response times, ideal for films and gaming. It is the same technology used by Sony 4K Digital Cinema Projectors in major movie theatres.

The key benefits of SXRD technology

SXRD technology delivers a high contrast ratio
SXRD panels reduce screen door effect on projected images
SXRD panels have a 2 millisecond response time

Ultra high dynamic contrast ratio

Contrast is crucial to picture quality. The innate high contrast produced by SXRD is complemented by Advanced Iris 3 from Sony to create an incredible contrast ratio of up to 150,000:1 on the VPL-VW90ES.

Smooth, film-like quality

Project smooth, film-like images on the big screen without even the hint of a gap or screen door effect. The VPL-VW90ES and VPL-HW20 feature the latest SXRD technology for an incredibly narrow space between pixels at just 0.2 of a micrometre (0.2μm).

Fast cinematic response

Watch pictures with fluid, natural movement. SXRD panels have a 2 millisecond response time. It’s one reason why SXRD technology is used in big movie theatre projectors.
