Inspiration

‘If MP3 compression takes the best bits out of a song, why can’t we put them back?’ our sound engineers wondered.

First, they had to analyse the elements of sound quality being stripped away by the compression process: The main culprits were distortion, balance and clarity.
So they invented Clear Audio Technologies and DSEE.

Creation

To make Sony MP3 players capable of delivering audio faithful to the original recording, our engineers now inject into every Walkman®:

• DSEE – to restore high frequencies lost during audio compression
• Clear Bass – to enhance bass performance and minimise distortion at high volume
• Clear Stereo – to provide improved channel separation for a superior stereo listening experience

But what about headphones...Don’t they have a role to play in sound quality?

The EX in-ear range was developed to go hand in hand with Clear Audio Technologies. Featuring big driver units for better sound, and bud shaped for better comfort, they’re actually tuned by hand to achieve the best in-ear sound quality.
