A crisper, more natural in-ear sound

Our sound engineers wanted to go one step further to improve the already excellent EX90 headphones. Their only option was to make the driver unit bigger…

The engineering story

Inspiration

But simply making it bigger wouldn’t work. The headphones wouldn’t fit in everyone’s ears, especially the smaller variety.

Until…an engineering breakthrough!

Creation

By turning the driver unit 90°, our engineers could sit the magnet vertically (giving them more space to use bigger ones) Giving a really perfect fit and great in-ear comfort, this innovation heralded the start of a new generation of headphones...

Finally, they popped a Neodymium magnet inside – the strongest magnetic material around, capable of supporting 1300 times its own weight. Such a strong magnet gives a much better sound reproduction.

Demonstration

The result?

• A wider dynamic range and frequency response, to reproduce recorded sound the way it was meant to be heard
• A thin magnesium housing and the new vertical in-ear style gives extra wearing comfort and cuts out annoying vibration

And so, the drastic concept of using a 16mm driver unit, vertically aligned against the ear, was realised by our engineers - who’ve now proved that our In-ear Performance Headphones range can always go one step further.

Our clever engineers were the first to bring you clearer vocals with multi-layer diaphragms. Mid bass is also less distorted, thanks to the big driver unit which needs fewer strokes to reproduce the same sound pressure than a smaller one.
