Just bought the Cybershot DSC-HX30V, like the camera but one of the main reasons i bought it was for the wi-fi feature. The camera appears to connect to the router but when i try to upload photos all i get is 'connection error'. Not sure if it's the camera or the pc (am still running on XP). Have installed Play Memories Home and have connected and uploaded photos via the usb connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been getting this problem every once in a while and it will connect after 5-6 times. Sometimes it won't at all. I am just not sure if there is a problem with its WiFi feature or somewhere else.

Hi joemanco, welcome to the Sony Fourms

The wifi should be quite easy to set up, following the instructions in the user guide. I wonder if you're trying to upload the full-size file? Wifi on the HX30V is only intended for viewing on the PC and uploading to smartphones and image-hosting websites, for which a smaller (ca. 2Mb) file is created. The full-size file is supposed to be transferred via USB.

If this isn't the problem, can you describe at what point the error message appears?

    Cheers

    Mick

    Hi

Did you find a way to resolve this, i also am having the same problems.

The camera is connecting to my network fine as I'm able to view pictures on my smart tv, however, when i try to 'send photos to computer' it just times out with 'network error'

I'm using a mac rather than windows so it sound like this isn't OS specific

    Cheers

Hi adama, welcome to the Sony Forums

I'm pretty sure you need to use PlayMemories Home to use the WiFi features, and as PMH isn't available for the Mac that would likely be the source of your connection problem. I think you can get a lower resolution transfer to work with iPad and iPhone apps via PMH Mobile, which is available for these devices.

It's early days for camera WiFi connectivity and the HX30V is an early impementation of it, which might explain some of these problems. It would be good to hear back from Paul, as the WiFi functionality may currently be restricted to smaller filesizes; I could be wrong of course, but that's the feedback I've had.

    Cheers

    Mick

HI Mick, thanks for the response.

It should be possible on a mac as they've written specific software to do it:

I've been following the guide here:

    http://esupport.sony.com/docs/dvimag/Wi-Fi_Import_Help_for_MAC/en/index.html

It seems to be set up ok just won't connect.

    Cheers

    Ah ok, interesting ...

It's possibly a DNS issue with your modem configuration. I'll check on some Mac forums and see if there are any pointers.

    Cheers

That Sony webpage will help you set up the camera as a designated device on the Mac, but the 'everyday' connection is performed from the camera Play mode, according to solutions I've come across.

This thread seems to have the most comprehensive advice and futher links to HX30V users who have successfully connected to their Apple devices: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4073344?start=0&tstart=0

Hope something there works for you

    Cheers

Hey I just bought the camera as well and am having the exact same problem, except it takes about 3 minutes to come back with the message. I am using Windows 7 64 bit. It is not a firewall issue as I tested with the firewall disabled. Also the USB transfer works fine. I have the Play Memories software installed with the extended options. The "Network Error Occurred" message happens every time I try to connect.  The customer support staff at Sony was no help at all. This capability was one of the reasons I bought the amera so it's pretty disappointing. As far as I can tell the wireless feature is completely useless.

Hello pmgarafola - Welcome to the Sony Forums

Which customer service department did you originally contact for further assistance with this problem?

I am aware that sometimes there are certain features that do not function in the same way when using a 64 bit operating system as opposed to a 32 bit one. You mention that you have already tried turning off the firewall but your anti-virus software may also be preventing this data transfer from working correctly. Have you tried temporarily turning this off to see if this will allow PlayMemories to communicate with your camera wirelessly?

    Thanks,

    Simon

I've just had to set this up myself.  Finding the Sony Wirelass Auto Import App was probably the hardest thing - then after installing it I had to deselect the previous connection I had made to my iMac via Parallels and Windows 7 so that it would connect to my iMac.    I have to say the app worked perfectly, and after setting it up & disconnecting the USB cable the photo transfer started immediately I selected the option in the menu.
