I am trying to connect my dell xps17 laptop to the tv via a hdmi cable. Dell support says that hdmi cable is ok for this pc. But nothing happens when I connect the cabels, and follow the instructions http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/iManuals/nor/EX72x/ts_tspicequip_europe.html

I find no e-mail address to ask Sony. Please help me

You would normally connect, turn everything on and press the Input Select on the Remote: -

Scroll onscreen to the HDMI Input being used.

Does the Dell require you to switch your output from screen to HDMI?
