no BBC iPlayer

In spite of the ads by Sony there is no BBC iPlayer on the blu-ray player BDP-S380 that I recently bought through Amazon.co.uk. And I did do the firmware update. 

I use the machine in France. Is there an IP check? Is the iPlayer for UK customers only?

    Correct, its geo-ip filtered by the BBC in the same way they block access to iplayer on your PC if you are outside the UK.

    I should have added: everyone in the world can download the BBC iPlayer app via iTunes. So what is special about this?
