Sony VAIO VGN-FW455D - Random black screen

Hi, my VAIO has randomly started to get a black screen. I can still see the screen image, but "masked" by this dark tint. If I close the lid and open back, image comes back.

 

I bought this notebook in late 2009 in Canada and never had a problem before...

 

Please, any suggestions as of what could be the problem?

Any ideas about potential cost to fix it? (I read about the "inverter" as a potential cause).

    Hi Martin,

    welcome to Questions & Answers..

     

    Yes from what you've posted it would seem that the cause could possibly be either a faulty Inverter, backlight bulb or cabling problem..

     

    May be worth either contacting either one of Sony's authorised repairers or a competent PC repairer in your area for a quote to repair..
