Have attempted to install this update several times. Each time receive the message 'Installation failed' and 'Please wait a while, then try again'.
Any assistance in overcoming this issue would be most welcome.
Hi bbeard
Same problem here! Vaio Update advised me an update was available to download. Tried to download several times, very very slow, kept stopping. Eventually got a download to complete, the installation seemed to go OK. Rebooted and got a message that the installation failed.
Decided to uninstall my version - weirdly, same version number as above. Tried to download from Sony website but download very very slow again and gave up.
Hope to get some assistance, like you.
Hi
Same trouble here. I was advised that there was an update and tried to install it. The update downloaded but when it restarted I got the "installation failed" note. Since then have attempted to re-download/install etc but nothing happens. Seems that it doesn't want to download.
Has anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
James
HI!
Same here. VAIO Update5 offers me to install. It installed it and reboot the machine. After rebooting the update program says: unsuccessful.
Ok then, went to support page and downloaded. Double click on exe... says extracting... and when the 'extracting' process indicator line ends nothing happens.
At Third time went the VAIO Care programme (maybe previous version) and in settings tried to search for updates. it says immediately: unsuccessful, try later.
Hmmm wierd...
Today I think I have to do a system tune up on my notebook with the VAIO Care program. (defrag, registry cleaner...etc.... loved before...).
When finished that, the web pages looks wierd... restart... looks wierd again (attached the image (firefox4)). Then press restore on the Care program (system tune-up)- And works great again.
Tried this again (run system tune-up, but turn off the registry cleaner part) and the web-pages went wrong again... restore... good...
And the new menus in Care program didn't show up. (like fan checking), but the help file mentioned now. (before not) So the new Care version installed or not? Didn't know exactly.
So maybe there is(are) a "little" bug(s) in that version
(how can I put back the previous Care version? Or will be a next version soon?)

I have had 6 HOURS trying to sort this problem, I got it to install by clicking it in the start menu and acepting the terms, But when running the care program it asked to update when shows in the uninstall programs that it is the new update, I have still got a problem with the program crashing now & then.
This is a user forum and is not regularly monitored by Sony - how many of you have reported this using the official support channel - Vaio Support?
However, I have already escalated this problem yesterday and received a reply from Sony Support this afternoon.
The problem has been referred to the engineering and web departments who are investigating - however, to assist with the investigation they have asked that we always give the Vaio Model being used when a problem occurs and also the software Name and Version you are updating FROM as well as the version you are updating TO.

I had the same problem trying to download the VAIO Care 6.4 using the the VAIO Update tool, unsuccessfully. Due to my stupidity I previously unistalled the Vaio Care 6.3 and Vaio Event service because the Sony support service states in the section Updates: 'Important: B4 installing this patch, make sure that VAIO Event Service version 5.12.03030 or higher is installed'. So I went to Control Panel\ Programs\ Programs and Features and I checked that the version of Event Service was older. The first step was to download the lates Event Service but when I tried to install it I could not becase it said that in order to install the newest you need to have the older.
I have always unstalled a program when installed the new version but this is not applicable to the VAIO world. I went to this web and in the originally installed section I downloaded the version of Event originally installed in my computer but in a bizarre Zip file. Then I installed a trial version of Winzip and when I could open it it was impossible to install it, I tried several times, unsuccessfully.
Asking to the new Sony Support Chat, that fortunatelly we have it, they first told me that I should use the recovery disk, thus, losing all the software installed previously. Then we tried to download the original VAIO Event Service using IE instead my default internet browser FF3.6., it did not work after several attemps. He adviced me on using the Windows Restoring System because they said that it will reinstall the uninstalled programs, the Care and Event but it did not. Only when I used the VAIO Recovery Center, it was possible to install the original VAIO CARE, version 5.0 and the old version ot the VAIO Event Service.
Another odd situation that occurred to me is that fiddling around the installation history of the VAIO Update tool I discovered that I've had already downloaded the latest version of the VAIO Event Service, the one required for VAIO Care 6.4 in Sep 10 but Windows Programs Features does show only the old version, even now.
I will wait untill the Sony software designers amend the problems with the VAIO Care 6.4 as the version that I have know is too basic compared to the one installed before the fiasco, 6.3, and that I cannot install again.
Lesson learnt...
OK - Sony have confirmed to me that there is an issue and they will remove Vaio Care Update 6.4.0.15030 from website ASAP today.
A new VAIO Care patch version 6.4.1.x will be released as soon as it is available but the exact date is not known.
Thanks to everyone for reporting this issue so quickly.
