Have you tried downloading the update and installing it manually?

The update can be found here

    Once downloaded follow the instructions.

How do I perform this update?
    1. Exit all running programs.
    2. Download this update and save it to your hard drive.
    3. When the download is completed, locate the downloaded file in the location you specified.
    4. Double-click EP0000214325.exe to run it.
    5. Wait while the wizard updates your software.
    6. When the installation is complete, restart the VAIO.

I have the same problem with my VPCEB1C5E.

I tried the manual install and it comes up with an error message saying a new version is already installed. But this is the newest version i am trying to update to.

If the update states that the new version is already installed perhaps it's incorrectly displaying in Vaio update.

Unless your are having problems I would just ignore for a while but if you want to be sure you could check with support http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=0

My VAIO VPCEB2Z0E will not download the update manually too.

It says I already have the recent version installed, even though my VAIO is a day old and neither I or it has installed a Peripherals Metadata update.

Although I have not had any problems yet I find it dissapointing and frustrating that a brand new laptop worth hundreds of pounds is going to repeatedly tell me to update something which cannot be done and was never done originally.

If it has already been installed then ignore it.

It looks liket his update is being shown in error in Vaio Update as it has already been released and installed on most Vaios.

I will bring this to the attention of Sony Support.

    Thank you for reporting it.

    open regedit, navigate to:

    HKLM\Software\Sony Corporation\Shared Info\AppDb\Vaio Perpherals Metadata

or if you have 64 bit Windows:

    HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Sony Corporation\Shared Info\AppDb\Vaio Perpherals Metadata

you'll see that "version" field indeed have higher number than the update (1.1.0...)

change it to something smaller (e.g 1.0.1.12089) and close regedit

    then run update

    problem should be fixed
