CD/DVD drive problem...help!!!

Hi

I'm a newbe, and I don't know much about computers. I have a vaio tz21 which is fairly new. Iv hardly used it. I bought avg antivirus software few days ago and I put the disk in and it won't load. 1st it makes some loading noise but than after few second it stops. I tried putting other DVD to check but same thing happens. I even checked device manager to see it their is any error but it says the divece is working properly. Now my laptop is without antivirus, and I don't know how to fix this problem.

Please can someone help???

    Hello there yourself and welcome to the club,
    try a system restore to a time before the errant software load. Get the free avg from the internet and test it. Also set a restore point using another computer and after cleaning it test your disk. If it does the same thing take it back to the vendor as you do sometimes get a dud

    Thank you for your reply. I don't have another computer. Nothing seems to work. Can you suggest anything else?? :(

    Hi a5ma,

    Try cleaning the laser lens. There are plenty of proprietary lens cleaners out there but   isoproponol alcohol used on a cotton bud works fine. One wipe with the wet end and then wipe with the dry end.

    I tried with a cd/dvd laser lens cleaner. But it still doesn't work!!

    Probably drive related - may need a new drive.  can't think of any obviuos reasons why it wouldn't recognise a disk.

     

    You could use an external drive, or download the antivirus software to install it in the mean time...

     

    Would agree with previous poster though - return it as faulty and get a replacement (make sure to back up your data first).
