DSC HX20V - trouble downloading PlayMemories

Hi there

I have just bought this camera and getting to grips with all it offers. Trouble is I don't seem to be able to download PM to my laptop (W7). I can get as far as 'initial set up - connect your camera to computer' but it doesn't recognise the camera is connected when it actually is. I have imported pictures with Windows so cable/connection is fine.

I have tried with all the different camera settings, modes, MTP, mass storage, LUN, GPS on/off but nothing works. I have seen on this forum that PM is not necessary as other software will do but that is not really the point. I would like to judge for myself.

I did see a thread with a similar issue but there was no conclusion - except try a new cable.

Any help from you experienced guys would be appreciated.

I apologize if I have started this topic in wrong section, this seemed like the best place considering options.

I have bought couple of Sony rechargeable batteries recently, 2 pairs of 3800 mAH, and one pair 1350 mAh. After using them for several times I have came to conclusion that they are fake and that their capacity is 5 times smaller. I was not very familiar with the capacities of NI-MH batteries before, but I beleive that not only that these batteries are fake, but batteries of that capacity don't even exist. I bought them on one ebay-like site and I just need a written confirmation that these are fake, that Sony never produceed anything like that. Also I even saw 4600 mAh batteries!

I had similar ones before, but I think that they were 2100 mAh, and they were excellent. With these 3800 fake I can't make more than 50 pictures with my camera...

I've managed to connect my iPhone to the NX-50 camera. Both devices concur.

However, where on earth does one obtain the app / instructions on how to proceed?

There are no sudden "magic icons" on the iPhone that offer any control whatsoever.

I have just received a DSC-HX20V which appears to have an issue with the power switch. If I push the on/off button the green light on the button illuminates but nothing else happens and the light remains on. If I then remove and replace the battery and push the on/off button the green light on the button illuminates and the lens extends as one would expect. If the camera is then switched off it can be switched back on again without any problem as long as this happens within approximately 5 minutes. If it is left for longer than 5 minutes the green light on the on/off button illuminates and again nothing else happens other than the green light reamins on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sony Cybershot Stuck in Negative

Hi, I have recently purchased a second hand sony cybershot dsc w690 from ebay. It was working fine when purchased however the screen has suddenly turned negative and i cant seem to get it to go back to normal..wondering if anyone has had the same problem or knows how to fix it. RX100 dark LCD screen image - live view boost?

I'm using my RX100 solely for underwater photography. I use it in manual, so I can control the shutter speed and aperture based on the ambient light/strobe mix I want for each shot. The problem comes when I want to shoot at say 1/200th at F8 but the ambient light is only 1/30th at F1.8 (I dive in the UK not the sunny tropics!). By setting 1/200th and F8 on the camera the LCD screen is showing a very dark if not totally black image as it's indicating underexposure dark that I can't compose the shot. I shoot with the flash as 'fill flash' (so it triggers the strobe via fiber optic cable) but even that doesn't lighten the LCD screen image enough. Some cameras have a 'live view boost' option (e.g. Olympus OMD etc.) which shows the LCD screen image regardless of the shutter/F stop chosen. Any chance that that can be part of a firmware fix for the RX100? As the image brightens momentarily during focusing it seems like it could be acheivable. I didn't realise this was an issue prior to purchasing the camera and underwater housing but it's getting to be a deal-breaker for being able to use it : o( which is a great shame as the image quality is superb!

I have a DSC-WX200 which I bought 3 weeks ago. It has worked perfectly until I tried to set up a computer connection today. The PlayMemories initial setup said no camera found so I tried to turn the camera on and nothing happened. I've disconnected it, removed the memory card but nothing has worked. Any suggestions greatfully received.

Bad quality night photos

Hello everyone

I have a DSC-HX9V camera. Whenever I take night photos they are very bad quality. They look much darker than what I see with my eyes and streetlights/the moon turn out blurry. How can I get clear, great quality night photos?

Problem transferring photos from camera's internal memory

Hello everyone

I took some photos today and didn't have my memory card in the camera.

When I click on the play button the photos are there. I connected the camera to my computer through USB and switched it on. When I click import pictures it says that there are no new pictures. When I click to view the contents there are no pictures there. How do I retrieve the images?

DSC-HX20V 'TV Static' Problem?

Hi Guys,

We have a strange problem with our Sony DSC-HX20V, everything was working perfectly with it one minute then suddenly it switched off (it was not dropped or anything like that) when we switched it back on the screen was showing what looked like green and black "tv static" it was animated and we couldn't get the camera to do anything.

We switched it off several times and each time it kept showing this static picture and nothing worked. When we switched it off the lens also wouldn't retract and now its stuck like this.

Please can anyone advise?

I really would like to buy the DSC-HX30V camera and can't understand why it's not available in the UK. Can anyone offer any advice? Also, I'm off the the US in March, if I bought it there would I have any compatability issues when using it back in the UK?

Cracked viewing screen by rubbing too hard???

Hello folks,

I'm asking if anyone else has had this problem/fault. I took the camera (DCS-WX100) from its case and noticed the viewing screen was finger printy, so I rubbed it against my sweatshirt front as no duster was handy.

Next thing I noticed was a crack across the glass of the viewing screen, thought it was intially another mark or scratch, but I could feel it with my nails....

Hi,

My Husband bought me the cyber shot DSC HX30V for my birthday, he bought it from an amazon seller from the UK but its arrived and all the menus etc are in Japanese!!

I have logger up the manual in english and it says the language settings are change in the settings menu, third option down....but that only gives you two options, Japanese or more Japanese!!

Can it be changed to English or should we send it back?

In 2006 I bought a Sony camera which I still use to create competition grade photos.

It has two features which I have never seen remotely equalled since:

One is the fixed zoom lens. 24-120mm equivalent with no/negligiible barrel or fisheye distortion beyond about 4 feet. The colour rendition is as good as I have seen on the latest top-end DSLRs. I remember one reviewer writing that the lens was worth more than the whole camera!

Two is the EVF in its live mode. This allows me to preview exposure settings, focus settings, white balance all behind a large rubber eyepiece so my view is unaffected by bright incident light.

Also the EVF view is duplicated on a swivelling screen allowing me to prop the camera against a wall say so as to steady it.

This was eight years ago and some of your older employees may remember this camera. Ok the EVF is very slow but just think what could have achieved with this concept developed during the last eight years. The real clincher was when I showed it to a Canon EOS5 owner. "Surely this is the future", he said.

The camera was discontinued in 2006 when Sony went DSLR and I was able to buy another one as a spare at the remaindered price.

Come on Sony, think outside the box! After all, whoever buys Sony DSLRs...?

Memorycard in Tx30

I can read in your specification that the required memorycard is

"SD-minneskort/SDHC-minneskort/SDXC-minneskort/microSD-minneskort/microSDHC-minneskort"

My dealbreaker is to use my Eye-Fi card with geotagging function.

My TX30 arrived today, and was dissapointed the camera only accepts MicroSD.

Am I wrong or do you have to update the tech specifications??

Us RX100 owners know full well the box advertises it as Infolithium, and we also know the supplied battery isn't infolithium as it only shows the stock battery bar.

When I foolishly bought the HX9v thinking it would be a good quality picture the 1st thing I did was purchase the infolithium as it was an option, any idea if the RX100 will be getting an infolithium option soon ?

good afternoon folks,

i've just purchased a dsc-hx20v and taken a few snaps which look great, i think!

i have installed the playmemories software and am trying to added the extended options.

it keeps giving me the message cannot start play memories home because the necessary files are missing or corrupted and then it removes the programme shortcuts to the original install.

any hints on what i can do to remedy this? i am by no means a software install noob but for the life of me i cannot work this one out!
