Booting windows 8 in safe mode

My vaio s series was recently infected by the specialist crime directorate virus and it has locked down my computer. As soon as I log on it takes over and I can't access anything. I might be able to remove the virus if I could get into safe mode. Apparently I can only get into safe mode on windows 8 by going through the start menu, which I can't access because of the virus. If anyone could advise me on how to get into safe mode I'd greatly appreciate it.

No Battery Detected.

Hi,

I have a problem with my battery. I get the message "No Battery Detected". I took the following actions from reading previous community members Q and A.

1) In the device manager settings, I disabled the "Microsoft ACPI- Compliant Control Method Battery" and rebooted my VAIO. After rebooting - the problem is still there - "No Battery is Detected".

2) I read somewhere that Sony VAIO Batteries have a inbuilt chip that prohibits the use of compatible batteries. I looked up some batteries on Amazon and they are offering 1) 11.1v 4400mAh (6 cells), 2) 11.1v 5200mAh (6cells) 3) 11.1v 8800mAh (12 cells).

My VAIO requires - Sony Battery Pack vgp-bps8a 11.1v 5200mAh.

From the above - the other manufacturers are quoting 100PERCENTAGESIGN compatibility. My question is assuming I were to go for 4400mAh or 8800mAh would it still be ok with my VAIO? This question is a matter of personal interest, whether the 8800mAh will provide more battery time than the 5200mAh and will still be ok with my VAIO?

Also, how to determine that my battery has packed up definitely 100PERCENTAGESIGN and its not some other software glitch!

I use Win7.

VAIO Movie Creator, Version 4.0.00.10170 - Installation Issues

My new VAIO SVS13122CXS restarts everytime I try to install VAIO Movie Creator, Version 4.0.00.10170 which is listed as 'New Software' in VAIO Update. The Installation does not proceed, shows 'FAILED'.

Since setting up the new laptop (purchased in US, for use in UK), I have:

i) Updated VAIO softwares

ii) Installed Norton 360 (License purchased in UK) and uninstalled Kaspersky 30 day Trial, which was pre-installed.

iii) Installed MS Office Home & Student 2013 (License purchased in US).

Please guide / help me trouble shoot.

Sony vaio vgn-fz11m graphics problems

Hi, I own a Sony Vaio vgn-fz11m with nVidia GeForce 8400m gt graphics. It was purchased with windows vista on it, butrecently I installed windows 7 professional 64bit.

The problem:

When i boot up BIOS looks awfully wierd, there are strange signs all over the screen. Then when in windows the screen is filled with yellow stripes and widows AERO does not work. When i try to plug in an external monitor it just says; no video data.

I've tried to update the video card drivers, but the installer just says that it can't find the hardwere. When I open the graphic properties it seems that I dont have a geforce 8400m gt card but a standard vga video card.

После ремонта ноутбука серии SVE1512G1RW( а именно жесткого диска и материнки, и переустановки винды с 8 на 7) wifi начал работать со сбоями-интернет вроде естья, а потом исчезает, хотя первую неделю после ремонта нормально работал. Драйвера вроде в порядке, проверял, выдает,что драйвера установлены, и от кабеля интернет работает бесперебойно, а вот когда подключена беспроводная сеть, то интернет пропадает и появляется, причем, при попытке подключиться к сети, мой роутер как будто бы появляет в списке других роутеров(соседских). В чем может быть проблема?

Adapter for secondary Hard Disk for Sony Vaio Serie E 15

Hello everyone,

I have a Sony Vaio Serie E 15 (SVE1511W1E SI, to be precise) and I was thinking of adding a secondary SSD hard disk by removing the optical drive. I was wondering if it is even possible on this model. Is there an adapter out there? And, even better, is there a Sony adapter?

Also, when choosing a Solid State Drive, is there any compatibility problems with my Vaio or any SSD will do?

Sorry for all the questions, I am not an hardware expert (in fact, I belive some of the internal components are run by little elves) I've been looking around but haven't found anything with a degree of certainty: if I am to embark on this quest (and spend some money) I'd like to be sure...

SVS1312P9EB - BIOS and suspend mode

I've a Sony VAIO model SVS1312P9EB with Windows 8 and all Sony's applications.

There two strange behaviour:

1) If I don't use the pc after 2 minutes it will go in suspension mode. I've checked Windows settings about power management for every energetic profile, but there are nothing set to 2 minuts to suspension or standby. Are there other settings extra Windows (example, VAIO software?)?

2) BIOS: my version is R1021C8; VAIO UPDATE tell me to update R0081C8 (older): if I update it the next time VAIO UPDATE tell me to update to R1021C8 version. Loop!!! What are the differences between the two version? And what is the best?

Hi, so I just got windows 8, and I can't find any matching graphic drivers for my laptop. It is a VAIO VPCEB4L1E(2nd gen i3, shared graphics 4gb ram etc.etc.). I couldn't find any on the sony website. Anyone got any ideas?

New version of VAIO Update won't download

I'm trying to run VAIO Update. It says a new version is available and must be downloaded first. I clicked download. On taskbar it tells me it is downloading. Then the whirly circle on the taskbar stops. But nothing else happens. There is no dialogue box. When I click VAIO Update it says a new version is available and asks me if I want to download it. I'm back into the same loop. Restarting computer doesn't help.

I've had problems with using VAIO Update in the past where new downloads don't download.

Anyone else having this problem? Anyone managed to get a solution?

E series ejecting cd/dvd drive

I have a new sve1512 which randomly ejects the cd/dvd drive when empty. This is the second identical laptop that has done this. The computer will be sat on the table, no dvd or cd in it and with no user input will suddenly eject. It does it randomly and started doing it straight out of the box....any ideas??

vaio VPCF11S1E overheat problem still after update bios

dear all,

I got Vaio F11( i7 cpu) on March 2010. I had overheat issue for more than 6 months. Just try to look into this issue recently since overheat issue is getting serious. Laptop can be burning even I just browse internet or do nothing( power on).

Following the instruction online, I have update bios, but it doesn't seem the answer. I have call for technical help. But seems my machine has passed the warranty. To get sony check my laptop, I have to pay 60 pounds first.

After review discussion online, it seems to me, the batch I got has default problems including high pitch noise, overheat, etc. I had send my laptop back for noise issue last year. And the only way to get around is to turn off the microphone( in setting).

What I want to say is that this patch ( f11) has so many annoy issues( faulty product?). It doesn't make sense for user to pay for service charge even the warranty is past. Any suggestion except paying 60 pounds first?

This should be a case for sony. I have looked into the way to contact Sony. But all of these are directed to technical repair provider. Any tip which directory I should contact?

I have a problem with my Sony Vaio E Series VPCEG15EA. Last Wek i notice that the Green Light is still ON even my Laptop is Shutdown. and i need to remove the battery to turn it off. But yesterday i started to have a problem. I have been informed that I would not be able to download the films on my tapes via my Sony Digital Handcam DCR-TRV10E camer on to my Sony Vaio VPCEC2SOE, if this is not true, please advise me on how to do so. a doubt of recovery DVDs

I've created the recovery DVDs.

If I would like install Windows 7 I must delete the partition tree an recreate MBR (to delete GPT). I would like to know if the DVDs works if I will have to recover the system after I make these change.

Hello. I own a svE1513c1e vaio laptop bought it from Thessaloniki Greece.

Recently i had to change the manufacturer hdd drive to an SSD drive due to Traktor Dj software browser speed issues. My question is , is there any way i can find the 30gb recovery data which was included in the Sony's 500gb hdd ? I have my guarantee and everything from where i bought the product.

problem at the driver support section

Hi my name is Vasilis , i'm from Greece and i own a svE1513c1e vaio laptop.

The past 4 days i try to download Sony apps from the driver section of support.

The driver/app seems to be starting normally with slow speed 130-150kbp/s ( my internet speed is 1.4mb's)

but eventually speed goes lower and lower and no data seems to be transferred any more.

Maybe there's some sort of problem at the driver server hopefully it will be fixed soon

VPCEB23FM screen problem/replacement in UK

Hi all,

I bought a VAIO VPCEB23FM laptop in the USA a few years ago, was great but the screen is not functioning correctly (out of warrenty). Here is summary of problem:

- Screen appears to be white saturated, black appears grey, some light colours become all white

- Occurs immediately on startup (BIOS)

- Pushing screen at various locations does not help

- External monitor display is fine so seems to be monitor related rather than graphics

- Checked inverter with my limited knowledge and it seems fine

- Checked connections, they seem to be secure, unplugged and plugged back to make sure.

So I think the screen is the problem, or perhaps a connection along the way. Does anyone know exactly what the problem coud be?

Another problem I am facing is the model was only sold in the US. Does anyone know if the screen for one laptop can be used in ther other in the same series? I was thinking a screen for another VP-C series laptop in the UK may be compatible. Its 15.5".

Sony Driver Downloads not Working

I have been trying since Friday 7th June 2013 to download some drivers for VPCEH3B1E, I have tried other Viao models, other browsers (IE 9, Firefox 2, and even Linux Ubunto)

All downloads start and run for about 1.2mb of data then hang. This MUST be a sony driver server issue.

Please can someone look at this, I badly need the wireless driver for my VPCEH3B1E,

A1199207A is the ZIF cable that plugs into the 1.8 HDD & the motherboard.

The Motherboard end is non standard afaik but the ZIF end is standard for a 1.8 HDD
