can you try and use google chrome browser and then sign into reader store and download file. in the bottom left of browser window there will be a pop up with the name of the ascm file. right click on it and there will be option to show file in folder. this file is not the book but rather the adobe link to the book. clicking on it will download book. depending on which program you use it wil download book to folder associated with the program. have you looked in my books folder. either under ADE or sony. finally if everything else fails go to file explorer and search for the book file by name. otherwise get someone to help you.

have you tried using a different browser. and do check destination of files. there should be option to open downloaded file in folder if you right click on it( chrome certainly has)

i think they would normally be in downloads folder. otherwise find download history in browser and right click on it and it should give you an option to show "file in folder" which will take you to it.

unable to log into store from t1

I was helping my father in law the other day setting up his t1 so that he can buy books from the reader.

updated firmware, created account on reader store and authorised reader and computer. bought book on computer and realise i can transfer it using reader store.

the problem is that he is not very technical so i want him to be able to buy books on device(or i can buy books using his account on the computer and he can them download them from purchased content on reader).

the problem is that when i try and log into his account on the reader it keeps telling me login details are wrong. i have reset password which doesnt help.

I did wonder if it was something to do with the new reader store in the uk. went home and can log in fine on my t1.

anyone else had this problem? or any advice?

why dont you use the sony reader software to reauthorise it. you wont need the serial number then. just plug it in and look in the menu to authorise reader.

sorry just reread your original post. why did you loose access to reader software. maybe you need to delete it and reinstall it

lovely that sony has updated the reader store - less lovely that this has made it difficult to access the store on the reader as no firmware has been release to update links to reader store on device.

i know i can use link i broweser to do it but why should i have to. get organised sony!!

you need to import books into reader software. go to menu and there will be an option to import/add new books. then you have to find folder where kobo books are and click and import.

because you are not buying books from sony they will not automatically be included in sony software

i have had similar problem but with google books. in that case it was an adobe drm problem. see

i also tried importing books using sony software and got the same problem. even after deleteing all books in my catalog and reinstalling reader software it still said book was in my library. in the end i have been using Adobe digital editions which work fine( i am using calibre for my library management anyway) sony software is just to bad.

been looking at the many updates to kobo readers. they are cheaper and seem to recieve better updates. i dont think sony will do anything more to t1 as there is a new t2 in the works to be released in september. i dont know why i bother with sony. i use calibre as the sony software is so full of bugs and slow.

i think that one of the problems with technical books is that the layout sometimes is not suitable for the current epub version but i believe epub 3? is comming out which will also support languages like japanese. see kobo anouncement re their launch in japan.

i keep looking for books on sony store but can never find the ones i am looking for. i would like to support sony to keep them in the business but i always end up at kobo as they have the books i am looking for. lets hope with time sony gets their seletion better and prices in line with kobo. i have never had a kobo reader but may have a look at one next time i am changing reader.

talk about shooting yourself in the foot. this is surely the beginning of the end for waterstones. I suspect that they just didnht have the money to rewamp stores and had to ask amazon for help. once you have bought your kindle amazon will reap all the rewards.

also. yesterday I saw some offers for books on desktop version that were not clearly visible on ereader version. i did find them but had to search for title of book whereas on desktop version there is section with offers in it(which seems to be missing from ereader version).

otherwise like the store and find it easy to buy from. bring the prices down in line with kobo and i will be happy.

You need to authorise your reader. Use sony pc software and follow instructions.

if you download the free program calibre you can organise your books using that software. in that program you can also edit the metadata and download more metadata. i use that alot to organise my books and put them into series.

hope that helps. calibre takes a bit of time to get used to but once you do you wont look back

dont bother with it. use calibre instead. may need r4pc to open drm files but otherwise use calibre.

i am danish but live in the uk. when i buy danish books i get them from saxo.com. every month they have book of the month which is 45kr i think. otherwise i read a lot of books in english bought from kobo.com or get free books that are out of copyright for instance from mobileread.com

danish ebooks are expensive and the selection is not great. for instance jussi adler-olsen refuses to alow his books to be sold as ebooks - very oldfashioned.

i agree with you there. the books i buy are from kobo and i have never had any problems with them. one thing that does amuse me is the copious emails with discount offers i get from kobo. reason; when i try and apply discount code to the book i want to buy in invariably get the message "the publisher does not allow us to discount this title". what really is pissing me of at the moment is not sony but the publishers. they seem to have learned nothing from the mp3 debacle. i notice that most of the publisher have now withdrawn from overdrive library lending(apparently due to some dispute with amazon in america). this will kill one of the best features of the t1 as no new books will now be added to the uk library stock through overdrive(if i understand it correctly).

when i buy a product i want the product to be mine to do with what i want. you dont buy a car only to be told that only you can drive it. ranting i realise so thank good for calibre.

surely it states that on the download screen and you have to tick a box before you can download the update file. it certainly did when i did it for the pc version. dont know if the same happens if you update through the sony reader software.

i have to say i have used kobo with absolutely no problems. i find their book pricing very competative and have never had any problems downloading books. i think that i probably wont end up using sony store much as i have settled into bying from kobo and passing the files through calibre and getting the books onto the reader that way. i think the wifi will mainly be used for borrowing books from the library which is a killer feature.

if you search for calibre ebook software you will find that there is a way that you will be able to get the books onto your reader.

i use kobo. they often allow you to download preview chapters. dont think it applies to all books. dont forget that calibre software can correct most of these problems. i bought a book the other day and the margins were so big that the text was only fillling 2/3 of the screen. i dont want to turn more pages than i have to so deleted the margins in calibre

Indeed. I remember my battles with sonic stage and sony connect on my mp3 players before I gave up and got a ipod. i have to say i love the prs-t1 and do use kobo and other sources for buying books. i dont find sonys slowness impeeding my enjoyment - I just accept that they cant do it. thats the great thing about an open format. can you imagine if amazon was telling us this and we could not go elsewhere to buy books.

you may find that the free calibre software works better. i must admit i have just about given up on the sony software as it does indeed take forever to sync. search for calibre on google or read posts on mobile read forum

first of all i suggest you read the manual on the t1 and the download and install reader software or calibre software. once you get the hang of it it really is a great peice of kit.

I would never use a debit card on the internet. you are not insured against fraud as you are on a credit card. furthermore if there is any fraud they have access to your main way of managing you money rather than a seperate credit card. if you are bothered about having to pay it of every month you can set it up so that the credit card company will automatically debit your current account with the amount you owe on the credit card. I cant really see why anyone would have a problem with using a credit card - it is much safer online.
