Vaio Update also doesn't allow removing the alert on an unwanted update.

I finally left the newer version installed, but it bothers me that Sony is showing very poor or no customer care in this instance: sort your Vaio Update please, and tell us which BIOS version we should finally keep, please.

This has going on for at least 4 months, the other customer wrote in one month ago, and we surely can't be the only Vaio owners with this issue, although many others may not pay attention to Vaio Update at all.

Please support your customer with fixing your issues, thank you.

Message was edited by: marcoecc

fixed newer BIOS version

Message was edited by: marcoecc

again fixed newer BIOS version: it's R1021C8!

Message was edited by: marcoecc

Further info (which explains why I'm bothered by this BIOS update conflict):
BIOS R0081C8 (27/12/2012) "Improves battery Lifetime, resolves hang up during Vaio Logo"
BIOS R1021C8 (beginning of 2013) "Sustaining C8", "Update Vaio Care Rescue Mode".

So, should we opt for the improved battery lifetime and hang-up fix, or for the update Vaio Care rescue mode?
And what does "sustaining C8" mean, anyway?

Thanks for any help.

More Vaio Update problems.

Can you please escalate this BIOS problem.

Hi deborah16 and welcome.

There are 2 ways to transfer video from your TRV10E to your Vaio. Unfortunately, both require additional equipment.

1. You will need to buy an ExpressCard34 Firewire Card to plug into your Vaio. You can then connect the camera's iLink/DV out to the Vaio's firewire port and import your video without drivers into something like the free Windows Movie Maker. You will also need to connect with an audio cable for sound.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Expresscard-Firewire-i-LINK-1394a-ports/dp/B006FXV84S/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1371072250&sr=1-2&keywords=expresscard+34+firewire

2. You can use the supplied AV Cable to output analogue video and sound but you will need to buy a video capture device to convert the analogue signal to a digital signal and import it into your Vaio through a USB port. You can buy a cheap USB video capture device for 5 to 50 pounds. Something like this would do: -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/August-VGB100-Video-Capture-Card/dp/B008F0SARC/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1371072165&sr=1-1&keywords=video+capture

If you are running Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, the software will not run and is of no use to you.

The USB connection is not supported since XP either.

So, if you don't have XP, to transfer video from DV Tapes in the camera you have 2 options: -

1. Connect the iLink/DV out jack on the camera to a firewire input on your PC. Download the free 'Windows Movie Maker' and import your video for editing/burning to DVD.

2. If you don't have a firewire input you may be able to buy a PC Card or an ExpressCard to add a firewire input. If you don't have a card slot, then the only way is output analogue video from the camera's video/S-Video output and convert this to a digital signal by buying a Video Capture Device which will connect to your PC by USB. You will need something like this: -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/August-VGB100-Video-Capture-Card/dp/B008F0SARC/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1370988277&sr=1-1&keywords=video+capture

Hi Jen and welcome to the Sony User Community.

You are quoting an invalid model - you are probably using the chassis model type from the back of the Vaio. For support services, download updates etc, I think you will find the correct product model is something like VGC-V2M.

There are several ways of doing this. The simplest is to buy a USB wifi adapter as this just needs pluggung into a USB port. I would buy one with an extension cable - so you can keep the USB receiver away from the Vaio to improve reception. Something like this: -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-WNA1100-802-11n-draft-Adapter/dp/B009T2WJG8/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1370768794&sr=8-9&keywords=netgear+wifi+usb

I don't think it is possible to put a wireless card into your model Vaio.

If your house is a large one, with the Vaio a long way from the router, you may find a set of Homeplugs gives better reception. A pair of Homeplugs plug into any mains electricity socket - one by the router and one by the Vaio - and connect using the mains electricity wiring with an encrypted signal. Each Homeplug has an ethernet connection.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-PA411KIT-AV500-Powerline-Adapter/dp/B0084Y9N3O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370769426&sr=8-1&keywords=tp+link

The advantage of Homeplugs is that you can buy another plug and connect your TV, Blu-Ray Player, Media Player etc. to your Network!

To get the correct contact options go here: -

http://www.sony.ie/support/en/contacts

and click on 'Vaio & Computing'. A window will open and you need to enter your Vaio's Serial Number. This will verify that your Vaio is still within Warranty and you will be given the contact details.
