Latest launch news from Japan & UK

Sony's press conference at Inter BEE 2009 reveals new professional camcorder that features Sony's market-leading G-lens, Exmor sensor and AVCHD recording

Announced on November 18th, Sony’s new NXCAM™ family brand offers class-leading, professional performance for AVCHD™ technology.

"Sony has gained great momentum in the broadcast file-based camcorder market with the XDCAM EX range complementing developments with the existing HDV range migrating to a hybrid file-based/tape format," said Bill Drummond, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Sony Europe. "Building on this success, now is the right time to productise an entry-level memory based camcorder utilising the latest AVCHD technology with low-cost consumer memory cards. Coupled with the latest innovations in lens and sensor design, this will offer outstanding picture performance to professional markets such as event videography or corporate video production."

Sony’s first NXCAM Camcorder will ship in early 2010 and is designed to set new standards for its product category. Key features include the same 3 x 1/3 inch Exmor CMOS Sensor with ClearVid array and Sony ‘G’ series 20x zoom lens utilised by the multiple award winning HVR-Z5E. The NXCAM camcorder will record AVCHD at up to 24Mbps, producing 1920x1080 high definition images in interlace or progressive modes along with 720/50p and MPEG-2 SD for PAL recording. Excellent images demand high quality audio, which is met with two two channel linear PCM audio capabilities. The inherent workflow benefits of Solid State media are fully exploited with the ability to record onto Memory Stick Pro Duo™ recording media and an optional 128GB Flash Memory Unit for Hybrid Recording.
