Sony Europe’s IT Peripherals division today announced a European-wide campaign to help tape storage users migrate from DDS/DAT drives to Sony’s AIT Turbo range of tape drives.
In addition to sending users a pack of five AIT tape media for each DDS/DAT drive switched to AIT under the scheme - Sony has also partnered with NovaStor to provide free, downloadable software for pain-free transfer of backed up data from DDS/DAT to the AIT format. The offer applies to customers who previously owned a DDS/DAT drive and have brought either Sony AIT-2 Turbo or AIT-1 Turbo drives before the end of December 2007. Sony’s AIT Turbo range offers DDS/DAT users improvements including higher capacity, greater reliability, increased data transfer speeds and read/write compatibility between drives.
80GB of native capacity per tape vs 36GB for DAT-72, six times more reliable*, native transfer rate of 43.2GB/hour vs 10GB/hour and can read/write AIT-2 Turbo, AIT-1 Turbo, AIT-E Turbo as well as previous AIT-1 and AIT-2 media. AIT-2 Turbo media is also read/write compatible with AIT-3Ex drives.
