Prepare for digital switchover

Find out what you need to do

Freeview TV is being updated

What’s it all about?

By 2012 the UK will have switched to digital TV. Gradually, region by region, the UK’s analogue TV signal is being turned off and replaced with a digital signal. And Granada is the next region to switch over.

On 4th November, analogue viewers in this region will permanently lose BBC 2 and digital viewers will lose ALL BBC channels. On 2nd December all remaining analogue signals will switch off and the remaining digital TV channels will also move. On this occasion analogue viewers will lose ALL channels while digital viewers will lose all but their BBC channels.

What do I need to do?

If you have a digital TV or product that receives digital Freeview signals...

On both occasions you will have to retune ALL your products that receive digital Freeview signals. This includes TVs, videos, set top boxes and personal video recorders (PVRs). This should only take a few minutes.

Re-tuning instructions vary from model to model, so we’ve provided specifics on this page In general, you should be able to switch on your equipment and press ‘menu’ or ‘home’ on your remote control. With the arrow keys select ‘settings’, then ‘digital set-up’ and ‘digital auto tuning’. Press the centre or ‘ok’ button to re-tune stations – your equipment will confirm once the process is complete.

If you receive your content via Sky, Virgin or Satellite (Freesat) you will not be affected by the switchover.

If you have an analogue TV…

You can either upgrade to a new TV with integrated Freeview tuner or integrated Freesat or get a product that receives digital Freeview signals, like a set-top box or personal video recorder (PVR). After this you’ll be able to access a far greater choice of Freeview TV channels, as well as enjoy new functions like on-screen listings and interactive features.

If you’re interested in getting a product that receives digital Freeview signals, please take a look here.

If you receive your content via Sky, Virgin or Satellite (Freesat) you will not be affected by the switchover.

How do I get extra help?

While the re-tuning process should be relatively straightforward, it is possible that you might need further assistance. If that’s the case, there are a few routes you can take. Pop in to your local Sony Centre if you’d like to speak to someone face-to-face. The re-tune website offers helpful advice, guides and manuals, troubleshooting tips and a ‘how to re-tune’ video. Or you can call the automated re-tune helpline for more information.

Visit the TV re-tune website which also contains re-tune instructions on other manufacturers’ products too. For information specific to the Granada switchover view this switchover guide Or call the re-tune helpline on 08456 05 11 22
