Stunning picture quality

Technologies that make a difference

Hard at work inside every BRAVIA TV are a range of super powerful technologies. Their mission? To bring you stunning picture quality, incredible detail and smooth motion for an unparalleled home cinema experience.

BRAVIA ENGINE and BRAVIA ENGINE 2

BRAVIA ENGINE

The BRAVIA ENGINE picture enhancement technology remains at the heart of most BRAVIA LCD TVs.

Any signal you put into a BRAVIA, regardless of the source, goes through a pure digital perfecting process to give you cleaner images, higher contrast and smoother motion sequences.

BRAVIA ENGINE 2

The latest BRAVIA models are equipped with this newly developed image processor. It builds on the innovative technologies of BRAVIA ENGINE by adding four new image processing stages.

BRAVIA ENGINE 2 incorporates full digital signal processing technology, to reproduce optimal, high resolution images from standard definition and HD signals. And image quality is further enhanced through the optimisation of contrast and noise reduction.

BRAVIA ENGINE EX and BRAVIA ENGINE PRO

DRC effectively quadruples the pixel count for incredible detail

BRAVIA ENGINE EX

BRAVIA ENGINE EX technology can be found in some of the latest BRAVIA models. It’s an enhanced version of BRAVIA ENGINE, adding in four new technologies to enhance contrast, reduce noise and offer incredible colour reality processing on moving images.

On top of that, Digital Reality Creation (DRC) effectively quadruples the number of pixels in any Standard Definition image source, for even sharper images.

BRAVIA ENGINE PRO

BRAVIA ENGINE PRO is the highest level of picture enhancement technology. It shares the same advanced features as the BRAVIA ENGINE EX, adding on an enhanced version of Digital Reality Creation to improve your High Definition signal.

It upgrades the signal you receive, giving you even greater definition for pictures with even more elaborate detail.

LCD panel

Incredible contrast and layout flexibility

The majority of BRAVIA flat panel TVs feature our state-of-the art LCD panel, which combines three features to make it a world leader in LCD technology.

The Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) monitors the brightness of the backlight and automatically adjusts contrast to ensure the best possible level of detail for every scene, at all times and across the whole screen.

The ergonomic non-reflective frame counteracts the reflection, especially if you are watching in artificial light.

As well as this, the 178° viewing angle allows you to enjoy your BRAVIA from almost any angle, without compromising on contrast and brightness.

Motionflow +100Hz

Motionflow +100Hz technology captures all the detail and drama of fast-moving action scenes, and sport and makes them ultra smooth.

The technology works by doubling up the number of frames you see on screen. New ones are inserted into fast-moving sequences, like the flight of a ball for instance, to smooth out the motion.

Based on information it gets from the before and after frames in every sequence, Motionflow +100Hz predicts motion in all directions and cleverly creates brand new pictures based on this information. So existing frames aren’t just copied and doubled up.

24p True Cinema

Thanks to 24p True Cinema technology, our new BRAVIA TVs take feature film quality to a new level.

Modern filmmakers shoot their films using 24 frames per second (24Hz, or 24p) and record them onto High Definition Blu-ray Disc™ using this format. But conventional televisions and projectors (and most DVDs) operate at 50Hz.

To display the film, they have to double the original number of frames by duplicating existing ones and speeding the film up, which noticeably distorts synchronisation. They even raise the pitch of the actors’ voices.

24p True Cinema matches the original speed to capture the power and quality of the studio recording.

Cinema Mode and Theatre Mode

An authentic home cinema experience at the touch of a button

Cinema Mode has been developed in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment as an optimal picture setting for movie content.

It automatically adjusts your BRAVIA TV to better preserve the mood and detail intended by the filmmaker. It prevents dark scenes from becoming too bright, and it will maintain the appearance of film grain where the filmmakers intended.

Theatre Mode goes one step further to give you authentic film-quality.

One press of the Theatre button on the remote automatically turns on both Cinema Mode and 24p True Cinema. Motionflow +100Hz is switched off to preserve the original cinema experience.

Integrated Digital Tuner

Enjoy digital TV without an additional set-top box

All BRAVIA TVs come with a built-in digital tuner so you can watch digital programmes without having to buy an extra set-top box.

All models are equipped with a MPEG-2 digital TV tuner which allows the TV to pick up signals transmitted in MPEG-2 format, as used by most Standard Definition TV broadcasters.
