Lifelike colours and natural tones by BRAVIA

It’s true what they say, you can tell a good TV by the way it reproduces colour. But how can you judge good colour reproduction? And how does BRAVIA make the difference?

Live Colour Creation

30% wider colour with BRAVIA ENGINE and backlight technology

Working hand-in-hand, Live Colour Creation is the clever work of BRAVIA ENGINE and backlight technology. Together, they capture the true colours of the source and deliver them 30% wider than conventional LCD TVs.

This means our TVs can deliver far deeper and more accurate tones, for absolutely stunning colour reproduction, exactly as nature intended.

10-bit panel for supreme smooth colour gradation

Colour gradation is one of the main factors to determine the quality of colour reproduction. This is the consistent and gradual change of one colour tone to another.

In an LCD TV, the backlight essentially determines the range of colours it can reproduce. A wider colour space means more vivid colours.

The panel is responsible for how many steps the range of colours can be divided up. The more ‘bits’ (there are also 8-bit panels), the more detailed the steps are going to be in between.

BRAVIA combines the WCG-CCFL (Wide Colour Gamut) backlight and a 10-bit LCD panel for the ultimate colour solution: smoother, natural gradation of colour from dark to light, across a broader colour spectrum.

x.v.Colour

A bigger colour palette for more lifelike tones

Traditionally the vast range of colours on an LCD TV is reproduced through a combination of three basic colours, red, green and blue (RGB).

x.v.Colour is based on xvYCC, a new international standard for video signals that defines a colour space nearly two times bigger than the existing sRGB standard.

The new palette closely matches the full natural range of hues and gradients perceived by the human eye.

This means that our latest models equipped with x.v.Colour technology can more faithfully recreate the true-to-life colours of an image, instead of substituting or approximating colours. In essence, the colours that you see on the screen are closer to real life, as if you were looking out of a window.

TRILUMINOS LED backlight

Red, green and blue LEDs create purer and more natural colours

The slim TRILUMINOS LED backlight attains superior colour reproduction that is simply unmatched by current CCFL backlights.

The high end TRIMUMINOS technology uses red, green and blue LEDs instead of lots of white ones, like most LED backlights do.

These coloured LEDs enhance the richness and subtle textures of the colours on the screen.

Because LEDs emit purer reds and greens, they can produce a brighter and more uniform light that captures the true colours of the source.

Instead of combining the deeper hues to one colour to compensate for technical limitations, the TRIMULINOS LED backlight reproduces the colours of the original source image.
