It’s not as complicated as you think
It’s all about getting the right cable for your system to get the right performance out of it.
And there’s a good rule of thumb to remember when choosing AV cables for your home entertainment system.
Experts say that spending at least 15 per cent of your overall budget should get you the right ones. That is, cables that actually make a difference to what you see and hear from your level of set up.
First, look for cables with oxygen free copper (OFC) . Over time, non-OFC cables will oxidise and increase their resistance to electrical currents. This means that not all of the signal going in at one end will make it out of the other. Audio and image quality can suffer as a result.
Good quality cables also have screening. This is a foil or braid wrap around the inside core of the cable. It shields them from sensitive signals, like those transmitted from nearby power cables, to avoid any interference.
Gold plated connectors are also an advantage, preventing corrosion between cable and socket as well as giving optimal signal transfer.
